| Welcome, Dragonfly, I love that avatar and so appropriate for your handle. I envy you the long arm but I do enjoy quilting on my Janome. I enjoy applique also and a little cross stitch and needlepoint but quilting is my true love. I do some by hand but it takes so long, so mostly use the machine.
This is a really friendly bunch and have a great time. Show us some pictures of your work and check out our gallery to see the work done by our group, it is just lovely. | |

| Hi Denise. Its great to have you joining in. You will find that many of our topics tend to wander, much like real conversations do. Some forums frown on that, but we do not. We call them "pig trails", and talk among ourselves as friends would over a cup of coffee. I see you have already asked some questions, please ask as many as you need to to feel at home and navigate easily. I live in Central Texas. A long way from Canada, but I have several friends who share pictures from up there and I know you live in a beautiful country. I have 2 daughters, babysit for my oldest's son, he will turn one soon. My youngest is in college. I have 4 dogs and a flock of chickens to drive me crazy. Thankfully, my animal zoo has gotten much smaller over the last couple of years. It was a lot bigger when youngest was home collecting critters. Speaking of animals, I hear one squealing in his crib. Nap must be over. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Thank you all for the warm welcomes and to Gimpy, I live in a small (1600) rural town with a beautiful river that runs through it and borders our property. Alas tho' civilization is creeping closer and closer with developers buying up the farmlands around us and plopping in sub-divisions right, left and centre. So, the quiet countryside my DH and I fell in love with when we decided to purchase our home here is ever-so-quickly disappearing. What used to be quiet, almost hear a pin drop weekends, is now slowly being replaced by ever-increasing din.............sigh | |

| Oh Dragonfly, don't you hate when that happens? I bet all your wildlife has pretty much gone too hasn't it? That's what I loved about living in the country..... the quiet and wildlife. But hubby's health just wouldn't let me feel comfortable living there anymore. So we don't live in the city but much closer. We still have plenty of birds, raccoons, squirrel, and even had a 8 point deer go through our yard the other day while we were sitting on the back porch! Surprised us totally..... it was beautiful. |

| Dragonfly, Im sorry to hear the farmland is being consumed by housing, I know exactly where you are coming from, its hard to live with noise after peace for so long, 6yrs here and we still struggle with people so close to us, our town has 1000, the whole area 2700, its a big area, rural and wilderness. We have 3 acres but have neighbours and yeah, its hard but at least 90% of the time you can still hear a pin drop here and the whole town shuts down by 8pm, its quite as a tomb here at night and during most days. I envy you the water frontage, we really wanted to have a creek or river but werent able to find a place with water, never mind, enjoy yours! _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Same scenario here, we used to be in the country but civilization has found us. It's sad but I am too old to move so have no choice except to adjust. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Memaw, if our health wasn't against us we would have moved out farther when we were forced to move but we knew that wasn't what we really needed. This isn't too bad but still not what we had and I doubt we will either of us be as happy, but I guess that's life. We could have been shoved closer and right on top of the neighbors and our neighbors are so quiet here so I guess we have it better than most. We do miss all the farm friends and deer etc though. | |

| The neighbor on our right side is our church's priest and on our left side is the cemetery. Those people are quiet and don't bother anyone. A lot of people in the neighborhood use the cemetery as a walking path. Behind us are acres and acres of woodland. I really enjoy the peacefulness. The small town we live in has less than 1000 people but more and more seem to be moving here. | |

Cindee, cemetaries are generally quiet places to live by, is yours still an active one or closed to burials? Sounds like you have a nice spot, river on one side, woodland on the other, must be beautiful in the fall _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| The cemetery is still open to burials. It is a very nice place to walk through. Large old maple trees and some very old tombstones. Some with mysteries and, yes, so much history. | |

| Sounds lovely with the maples, the cemetery on the edge of town here had been closed for some years but they just reopened it for burials as the closest one was in another county and they just imposed a huge fee for anyone outside their county. _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon
