Yep, that's my daughter.  I may have to watch what I say on here.  She's mostly dropping by to read the story I wrote.  She's creating the costumes for a play set on Cumberland Island.

It would be nice to have her around though. Very Happy

Hi, Thank you guys for letting me join. I'm Stella's real life daughter. You know her as redmadder.
I needed some help with a historical quilt, for the war of 1812.
I have just started costuming for a local community theater group. This time it's a black history month tribute, and I wanted to present a small hanging quilt, to show my honor and thanks.
I live near Cumberland Island, so this story is about real people, from the area.
Everything I have learned, I have learned from watching my mother, as I grew up. She would let me make my own mistakes, when i attempted to mimic her, and then she would hand me the seam ripper, and say "now let me explain about the grain of fabric, or too fast on the peddle, or stear it gentle you don't need a death grip on the fabric for it move through the machine...etc"
We've worked on several quilts together, sometimes I would help her with fabric color choices, mostly I would iron her blocks ("set the stitches?") while she zipped through the rest of her blocks.
For all of that, when it was finally my turn to put the skills to work, I have impressed her, more than once, with my accuracy (especially on difficult seams, being just a beginner )

So, for this forum, she will have many phone calls to help guide me through the technology of actually using a computer, and navigating a sight.
And our distance means, anything new I learn about quilting, will be on here, or over the phone as well.

Thank you!
Stella's daughter (a.k.a. Snody Duck)

Well we may just have to call you Ducky, it's much shorter than " Stella's daughter ". and I for one am a lazy typer. lol! Your mama is a jewel and I don't think we have any bad stories to tell about her. So you may learn things, but it won't be anything juicy about your mama. Very Happy

Any time you need help with anything at all, forum, quilting, etc please don't hesitate to ask. We have folks in all time zones so there is usually some one around to help. I hope you enjoy hanging out with us and sharing more of your story. I think I would love working with a community theater. That sounds like fun.

Welcome, Stella's daughter, but we do need a shorter version of that, though. I have a niece who also did  costumes for a community theater for awhile. She left after the fellowship was over as they hire no full time people but I think she really enjoyed it. Hope it all goes well for you and you enjoy it.

Ahhhh, maybe we could call you SD for short, that covers Stellasdaughter and Snody Duck or as TxMary said, we could call you Ducky!!! So glad you popped in to say hello, it sounds like you have a big project ahead of you and it sounds like you have a lot of great skills that are going to see you through. A couple of the members here make costumes from time to time and there are many seamstress' too (not me, I cant even make a button hole and I wouldnt know what to do to sew a zipper in, Id just chuck it at the fabric and hope it stuck!) so there will be lots of help and interest in your projects. Your mum is a wonderful woman, we love her sense of humour and she is such a busy acomplished sewer although there was that time.....................................nah, only joking!!

You live in a pretty area, I lived in Savannah for a year, where I met my fool, no I meant jester, no I meant husband - him, he comes on sometimes as fabric purchaser, acts all hard done by, dont be fooled.

wishing you luck with all your future quilts and the costumes, as TxMary said, if you get stuck, anyone around here will be happy to help out as much as they can, welcome to our hang out chatting chatting chatting chatting

Welcome SD!   I live in Ohio where your mother visited one summer and had the pleasure of meeting her!  And yes, it was a great pleasure for me and my best friend who also lives in Ohio.  We had a blast getting lost.  Just ask your mom and she'll tell you all about it.

I also sew for a Museum!  Tons of fun.  I make costumes too.  Mainly day dresses, vest, bodices, aprons and things like that.  We have a Historical Island called Blennerhassett Island that re-in-acts every summer the life of the family that lived there.  Tours and the whole bit.

Just call her Ducky!  She is so cute, that just fits her.  I named her Snody after my grandmother.  Not my fault she married a Duck.  But he's a great guy and only threatens to give her back about once a year. Very Happy
