Need advice on using my new sewing machine Empty
PostSubject: Need advice on using my new sewing machine   Need advice on using my new sewing machine EmptyFri Dec 20, 2013 7:20 pm

I am learning the quirks and habits of my Viking. I am liking this machine pretty well. But (you knew there had to be a but) This is my first non-steel head sewing machine. All of my sweet ladies are built solid like me.

So while I am sewing, I find the plastic casing building up static and thread ends, bits of fabric, fuzzies and anything not nailed to the floor is attracted and sticks to it. Pulling the thread ends behind the presser foot at the start of a seam is an exercise in determination. (you notice the lack of the word patience?)

It took me a while to realize I was fighting static. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a simple fix? Do I wipe it down with a sheet of fabric softener? Or is it like the old high speed office printers, string a piece of tinsel across the back to cut the static?

My fancy stitch Janome has the problem. I have been taking it apart and cleaning it more than I like to do. Because of its need to have magnetic control, it can't use metal bobbins and tends to attract stuff. Actually, my suggestion is that you check on it with your dealer.

Sewn I can offer any personal help but Im wondering if finding a Viking forum would help, the forum members know the machines well usually, I think most brands have forums around the internet, you could take a peek

Hmmm, I do not have that problem with mine. Do you have carpet in the room? I wonder if it is related to that? I will ask around.
