| I'm looking for advice on quilt racks/stands for quilt show displays. My chapter no longer uses the heavy wooden racks and recently donated them to the local school's tech program. For the past decade our quilts have been draped in a church setting. There's a group that wants to see our quilts hung and since I'm chairing the 2014 show, I listen to their wants, have been researching some new and innovative display stands, and told the group that I would not go any further until there was a sufficient amount of money dedicated to purchasing at least enough display stands for at least a dozen quilts. With a "pound party", one raffle, and a few donations, I am told that we have enough money for me to take the next step. Do any of you have experience with portable quilt display stands by Craftgard Co or Pals Products? Or does your group use another brand? What are the advantages/disadvantages of what you use? I'd appreciate any feedback.-Pom | |

| We have a few guilds in our area and what we do is rent them from another guild this way we don`t have the storage problem. I know these were made by one of the husbands. sorry I am not able to give information on the stands you are talking about. So glad that you are going to hang them I find that it is very disappointing going to a quilt show that has quilts draped rather than hung. Thanks for the extra mile.

| the guild my MIL belongs to uses pvc pipe, it's fairly inexpensive and will come apart to store easily. I will post a pic to my gallery, it's my MIL taken at their quilt show and has the stands in the background. just an idea. | |

| Our guild also uses PVC pipe for frames. It was a design that DH came up with and they have kept it going all these years. They use army duffle bags to house them and tote them about. Also to adhere a quilt to the frame they use PVC pipe cut in sections with part of the 'O' cut out, clamp it on the quilt and it holds nicely. | |

| Q that PVC would make a great place to hang quilts for pictures. I'll have to remember that one! Thanks! | |

| All the local shows around here have PVC frames. I believe they are mostly homemade, built by guild members and their Husbands. They also use the black "curtains" to hang smaller ones on and you are required to have a hanging sleeve on any large ones you enter. The sleeves must be 4" minimum to fit the pipe that is used. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

Thanks! What a great idea Linda 2B! Beats laying them on the floor. |

| my DH made me a ladder with pvc pipe, he put a pvc tee where each wrung attaches and I keep it leaned up in the corner near my quilt frame. when I finish a quilt top I iron it and hang it on a wrung. when I'm in the mood to machine quilt they are right there waiting. plus the pvc will not crease your fabric and no chances of splinters like a wooden ladder. another idea for inexpensive pvc pipe. | |

| Wonderful idea Chele. Much better than folding them and getting so many creases. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| thanks memaw, my MIL made that quilt and put it in the show. she won a ribbon for it but I can't remember which one. she always wins best in show or ribbons, i'm afraid to enter mine, she's so good I probably wouldn't stand a chance winning anything. | |

| Thanks for the various ideas. PVC may well be an option. If any of you are interested in viewing what my guild has been considering: www.stores.palsproducts.comwww.craftgard.comWe will make a decision in April. quilterchele, have you been to the farm and quilt show in Dade City (Pioneer Museum)? Not too far from Leesburg. | |

| A couple of guilds near us have gone over to the telescoping quilt frames. IMHO, the PVC seems like a better idea: cheaper and easier to use. Putting the telescoping one up was something of a balancing act. | |

| no PQ I've never been there, Dade city is a little less than an hour from me. I'll have to look that one up. We go to a nice quilt show in Lakeland every year the end of March and Jacksonville has a pretty big show in the fall. Most of the nice quilt shops are 1 to 3 hours from me, you would think there would be a lot more with all the retirees down this way but it's mostly golf. | |

| Pom, just from a show goer's point of view, I can see those tripod legs be a problem, possible tripping people, especially if show is busy. JMHO _________________ TxMaryQuilts
