Embroidery machine

My neighbor across the street has an embroidery machine she wants to sell.....says she bought it but never uses it....has trouble with getting the fabric in the hoops.

It's an Elna 8300. She bought it in I think 2010 or 11. Paid 1200 for it new with all accessories. Is asking 600. I'm interested because I want to be able to do monograms. Anyone had any experience with machines like this? Not really interested in much embroidery but the monograms. What do ya'll think?

That sounds like a really good price.  I have no experience with this particular machine, but do have a couple of embroidery machines.  I had used them for grand kids clothes, then started using them to make labels for my quilts...which I still do.  I have also used them for monogramming towels, t-shirts, kitchen things, bags/totes.... once you start using your embroidery machine you will find all sorts of things to put designs on!

There is an Elna 8200 on eBay for $500... I am thinking the 8300 is a step higher than this one?

I'd sit down with her and have her show me everything it does.  Then if you really like it...... offer her $500.00.   I like to bargain can ya tell? 

     

I have a Janome emb only machine. I paid about $500 or $600 a few years ago. I have only used it once, simply because I don't have the time or the project right now.
Is there an Elna dealer nearby? Maybe you could have them check it out for you before you buy it?

Thanks.....I can check with the place she bought it here....it's still in business. I saw that one online Mamu....as a matter of fact, I emailed the seller to see what year it was....a 2009 and it has been in storage for 3 years. Hers was purchased in 2010 I think so I guess it's just a bit newer.

Will go over and play with it this weekend!
