| Ummm Memaw, they didn't use 3" squares to make these blocks. The finished block is only 3"! Now if I were to make them, I would be making them bigger cause 3" at a time don't get you very far very fast. Some folks have a lot of patience. I am always impressed by folks who can do those tiny little blocks. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| I have made a couple of 3 d bow tie quilts and love that pattern. I use 5 2.5" squares on mine. If anyone is interested, I'/ll prepare a tute for that version of this old time block. | |

| I tried to do the 3-D block with 1 3/4" squares. Just can't manage them. Several years ago I made one for a swap, can't remember who, with 2". So I made one block with 1 3/4" by the regular method. Sigh. No time to get serious, just too much else going on. _________________ If you can't be a hero, be an inspiration.

| A few years ago we went to the old settlers at Clayton and a man in his 90's had hand sewn a king size postage stamp quilt and hand quilted it too. There were so many quilters in that area that just had to keep going back to look at it time and time again. We ask him what ever made him try that pattern and he told us his wife always had a quilt in her hands and she had passed and he was lonesome with out her . He had always helped her do what ever she needed done as she grew older and more crippled up, so he knew quite a bit about it and how to go about putting one together and he had loads of scraps so he just started cutting it up and stitching it when ever he had time. That was the most beautiful thing and his stitching was very tiny and even his quilting sure could put us to shame today. I sure wish I had a camera with me then. I'll never forget his quilt. He said he didn't feel so alone when he worked on that and could feel her beside him while he worked. | |

| Norma I love that story, thats really cool, I have seen a few quilts made by men and they are very excellent crafters. Have you ever seen or looked up the soldiers quilts etc? They are amazing Thanks for sharing that story.
the 4" baskets are cute, I could using them as borders or filler blocks, didnt shemoo just do a load of little basket blocks for a quilt? _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon
