Dress Made From Selvedges

I ran across this dress made from selvedges and just had to share it. I think it's fantastic!

Amazing! I like the handbag and the doll quilt made from selvedges....really cool! Thanks for sharing that! The utimate in recycling and frugality. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do the dress!

Wow! I have seen a quilt made from selvages ... pretty neat.. but I don't think I would bother to save them either... lots of work there... but sure was neat to see...

Well..I don't cut my selvedges off ahead of time. As I cut across the width of the fabric I trim the selvedge off to make my first cut for my pieces...so my piece is rarely more than 4" or so. For people that cut them off..it's fun that they are making something from them. I thought that dress was fantastic!

Several members of my guild use a giant hook to make crocheted bath mats with selvedges. Both sorts of projects are WAY past my level of frugality.

I love the dress. No one would ever guess what it is made from. Even if i knew how to make a dress--I would never attempt that! Just too cool.

LOL..I'm sure if I saw that gal in person wearing that dress she'd think I lost my mind..because I probably wouldn't be able to stop staring/reading the strings. It's really very well done!

Wow, who has that much extra time on their hands, and I wonder when it's washed if all of it will shrink the same amount??? I know the do draw up, as I've seen a couple of beginners quilts where they for got to take them off and you sure could tell it after they were washed!! Norma

When I first saw that people were making things with the selvedges..I thought it was a little..obsessive? The idea has grown on me though. LOL I've been saving some of mine as I cut fabrics. I want to make a piece of fabric big enough to cover a hinged box I have. I thought I'd sew them together then use the strong fusible to fuse the fabric to the cardboard box.

it reminds me of string quilts...you know those quilts made with really skinny scraps of fabric..?

Yep..I know what you mean. I've been cutting a 1 1/4" piece from fabrics as I true up the cutting edge for years. I've made log cabin blocks from them..but want to do a string quilt that has the strings going diagonally across the block.

Paws and Redmadder here have done some gorgeous string quilts! Forgive me if I've left anybody out who has made one. Those two really stuck in my mind.

some day maybe I will make a string quilt.... I like the look of them and yes some of the gals have made some lovely ones....

Have anyone thought about how heavy it would be??? All those strips sewn together, have seam allowances in there. I would think it's heavy.

Pretty cool I have to admit. Beyond my frugal-ity also. I collect way to much as it is...selvages get tossed.
