I've been asked to make a quilt for a 5 year old boy who saved his family from a house fire.

It started in his bedroom from an electrical outlet.  He put his sister out the window, then his dog, and got out himself.  Then he woke his uncle up and they got the rest of the family out, 8 in all.

Anyway, what little boy wouldn't go nuts over a quilt with patches, the sew on kind, from fire stations.  I've drawn a big helmet with his name and will have a patch from our county.  Could anyone else send me badges?  There will be ceremony honoring him on March 2 but ya'll know how fast I work.

I'd just like to ask him how he knew what to do?  Five years old?  Man, what a kid.

If you google Atlanta Journal Constitution, house fire, Kingston, you can read about it.  Boy saves family.  It happened while I was in Baltimore but I saw the house.  It is entirely gutted. cry2

I should have said 'fabric sew on patches', the kind that go on the sleeve of their uniforms.

I read about this kid. He really kept a clear head. Wish I had access to a badge. I'll ask mac if he knows any firemen.

Fireman, police, security, well, maybe not Hell's angels. He's 5 and can't read yet so he'll just enjoy the colors. I'm cutting out squares in red, blue gold, black, so if any come in, I can just sew them on and join the squares.

I asked a quilty friend on our volunteer fire department. She will look for one. Her fireman DH, who died suddenly recently, may have left some uniforms.

Thanks, Marynel.  I've got my fingers crossed that some will be in the mail when city hall opens on Monday.  Meanwhile, the squares are cut.  A guild member is embroidering 5 firetrucks that will be scattered in there.  The post has been shared over 200 times on FB so, yep, my fingers are crossed.  I have until the night of March 2nd to get it done.  Anyone wantta bet I'll still be putting in stitches at the city council meeting?  Embarassed

Sorry for your friend's loss.

He will be missed. Reliable volunteers are in short supply.

The 'Hometown Hero' quilt was presented to Noah at the city council meeting last night. Photos are at Facebook.com/CityofKingstonga. Special thanks to iambuzzysma and Krafty Lady. Those patches were especially colorful. He'll have lots to read someday and remember that a lot of people were impressed with what he did.

If I ever do that again, I'll quilt it first and then sew the patches on. Quilting around them took more time than if they were sewn on individually.
