| Well I had promised myself I would not buy any more "gadgets" for quilting. I either don't use most of them or they don't work the way they are advertised. But I have been reading a lot of good things about these wool pressing mats and Cassie and I each bought one at the show on Friday. I used it yesterday and today while working on my scrap block and I absolutely love it. I have never pressed a block with so many bulky seams so flat. And I feel like it helps keep my bias edges from stretching too. Cassie used it to press an embroidered block today and said the same thing, best press she ever got on her embroidery.
So I just wanted to share our experience with the wool in case anyone was wondering if the hype was real. It is real! They aren't cheap but I feel like they are worth it because I will be using it all the time. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| I got one a few weeks ago when Missouri Star had one for their daily deal. I love it! Showed it to Bratt and she got one the next time they went on sale. The seams lay so much flatter and no need for starch! | |

| I bought one from Amazon at a reasonable price. I love it. Unfortunately, so does Tiger cat. He wrecked one side, but I found a good cat-proof place to store it. | |

| Several people at quilt camp use them and swear they are great. Too pricey for me right now. _________________ If you can't be a hero, be an inspiration.

| They are a bit pricey aren't they? I do hope they hold up and don't get all matted down with use. Not something I want to replace a lot. Guess time will tell with that aspect. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Holy crap! I just checked the price on Missouri Star - the 17" sq. one was listed for $40 when I bought mine a couple months ago not listed price is $60 for that same size! Has the price of wool gone up? That is the manufacturer list pries, mind you! | |

| Oops, I was mistaken. I have a 13.5" square one. The one by the gypsy quilter. Missouri Star has it for 36.95. Connecting threads has a different brand by mountain mist. | |

| Amazon has a variety too. Some more wallet friendly than others. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| I found some places where you can buy it by the yard (not cheap! but...) I need to recover my ironing board (badly need to do this) and was thinking about buying a big piece and covering the whole board under the cover. I like pressing on it that much. Cassie has my old big board for when she moves and we could get a pice big enough to do both and split the cost. So thinking on this option. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| So after doing some more reading and thinking about this, I don't think it would be good to put a full size felt mat UNDER the ironing board cover. It would not be good for the wool pad to have starch seeping into it and the wool will transfer moisture down to the wooden base and hold it in. That would cause problems. So I am leaning toward a larger piece just on top that I can remove when I need starch or steam.
