| I'm trying to finish up one of my UFO's and there is alot of bias in this quilt. A new challenge to me! Obviously it went uncontrolled and now I have bubbling. I am not going to undo, I am going to learn to live with it. Has anyone else had the same problem and how did you deal with it when it came to quilting? I'll be machine quilting this one, basting on the floor. Gah, I don't know what I am asking, I just hope it turns out okay. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful bubbly quilt, and the fabric feels so nice. Thanks! :spring1: | |

| Been there, done that.
I starched the heck out of it and pressed good and it turned out fine after quilting. | |

| I had a little trouble with my last one which was a lap size, the border was acting too big for its britches, I got fed up and folded it at the seam and sewed over it with a decorative stitch. So of course I had to mimiick that on the other side so it matches. On the one I'm working on now I took a measurement of the center of the quilt end to end and made my border that size not the size it was on the end, I had to work it in a bit because it was not exact but the finished product on the first row border is that it feels real square and flat. | |

| I am fond of on point settings, so I have to deal with this problem a lot. The best thing is to stay stitch before you cut, but we often forget to do that. Heavy starching or sizing is the next best, but again, better if you do it before you cut. If you have trouble making stay stitching work for you, another way to do it is to iron freezer paper on the back right before you cut, preferably just smaller than the finished piece will be so that it won't be caught up in your seams. When all else fails, sew a running stitch along the raw bias then EASE it back into shape. Yes, that is the voice of experience. | |

| Whenever I'm sewing blocks that have bias I give them a spritz of starch as I press them. It really does help keep them under control better. That's just for future projects..with this one I'd lay the unruly part on the ironing board and have the iron set on steam. Have your iron above the area and just press down. Don't scoot the iron..just lift and press until it behaves! Good luck..I think we've all been there? |
