How awful that Singer had a policy to destroy old machines to reduce the number of machines available and force people into having to buy new ones. Undone by their own good product they started with. Thanks for sharing

Yeah I thought that was terrible to destroy those machines. I saw a show last night that featured one of the early lightbulbs. The first light bulbs lasted practically forever. It was putting light bulb companies out of business because they were so good. So all the light bulb companies got together to compile "industry standards" (what they told any one asking) and basically agreed to use much thinner filaments so the bulbs burned out faster. The first documented case of planned obsolescence. Now everything is planned to be obsolete to force us to buy more.
I thought the "human sewing machine" was a cool way to show how the stitches are formed but the squeaky foam gave me goose bumps!

One listed in a British auction house, the lion one, price guide is $20,000 - $31,000 made 1886 for the American market - and that price is from 2011
