Quilting Suggestions, Please Dragon10

I can't seem to figure out how to quilt this, now that it is pieced and appliqued.  At first, I was thinking of putting some sort of stone work, an arch or castle, but then realized there isn't really room to do that.  I'm not too great at straight lines, so I do try to avoid those.

Please, share your ideas!

I suck at using paint but here is a very rough look at adding a cave type appearance around the dragon. I wasn't sure what you had planned for all the open space at the bottom. so I improvised. lol!

You could do out door type landscaping around him. Mountains in the far background, grasses and rocks up front, and maybe a stream. The cave with a treasure chest in the front with some jewels or coins.

A skeleton and a bottle of ketchup..... lmao lmao lmao

That is one of my favorite sayings!! I don't have a lot of use for it generally, but I do love it. Funny I hadn't thought of using here where it was most appropriate!

I actually was planning to cut the bottom like shield or medieval banner, but yours looks like a much better idea. I had planned some flag stones around his feet, I really like the stalactites and could probably do those better than anything else. ( Probably because they would be so very hard to do wrong!)

If you do a banner style cut at the bottom you could use a fancy font to do your son's initial and "rays" extending out around it. Just let the rays end at the rocks at the base of the the dragon. I know rays are straight lines but painter's tape is a great tool to quilt straight lines. Place your tape and quilt on each side of it. No messy lines to try to get rid of later!

You could always copy the celtic design off the book cover and do that around the top half, just a thought. Laughing at the ketchup and skeleton hahaha

Oh and by the way - he looks awesome JR, you have done a fantastic job, he is brilliant!!! clap

Good idea with the painter's tape. I'll have to remember that. The rays coming off had been my other idea, but getting those lines wonky was too big of a fear. I'd be annoyed by it if it was too badly done!

I hadn't thought of replicating the book designs, that could be fun too. I'm glad you like him, it has been an adventure.
