Thank you all!!

This is my new favorite for scrappy, crazy quilts. It works best with a foundation. This makes it semi-qayg.

I used thermore batting for that. I lsat under the quilt this evening with a plan to bind the top. I was asleep almost immediately.

Since my main machine is in the shop, my flimsies are piling up.

I saw a scrappy quilt somewhere and said I'd like to do that, then could not find it again. It used 2 blocks. The 16 square block is an old standard. The other one was some sort of X. I played around with several ideas, then came up with this one.

My DH calls scrappy quilts REAL quilts, so he really likes this.

For some reason your pic isn't here Marynel? I went to your album and it's in there.
I really like that one. It's a perfect quilt for using a lot of scraps. I really like the red you've used. Freddy Moran says red is a neutral. I dunno about neutral..but it does look nice with a lot of colors.

CC, I had not thought of that, but it fits.

I did most of another baby scrappy top today, pix later. I have one seam to redo and the border to add.

My DH always loves a scrappy quilt, but I like this one more than most. I had a lot of fun making it, now I have to figure out where it belongs.

DH always says that my charity quilts should be scrappy BEFORE I make them, then afterwards says, "This is too good to be a give away." I don't think he really has the concept of charity. I keep telling him a charity quilt is a gift to God and should be done with that in mind. After all, I don't want to give trash to God.

I'm sort of unsure where to post this...just like the last one. This is a scan of my second block for the guild's crazy quilt.

Thank you. If you decide to make a crazy quilt, I suggest you start with one of Judith Baker Montano's book on the subject.
I gave mine away because I didn't want to be in competition with a guild sister who is making one when she is in town (She lives in Mexico a large part of the time, having been a Mexican child film star.) Maybe I will rethink that decision.

I Love crazy quilts. When I was in the guild there was a lady who specialized in them. Oh , they were to die for but so heavy you could hardly hold them up. All velvets , heavy fabrics etc that she had collected for years. And she was a very skilful embroiderer plus she also had a very large stash of old laces etc. I always wanted to make one and had a large stash that had taken me years to collect . Silks , satins , velvets etc. Lost the lot. I think that is one of the successes of them is to have that large stash which does take so long. The nice fabrics play as big a part a sthe embellishment We used to haunt second hand places but they no longer have these types of fabrics as modern people don't wear them. Pity . My dream now is to downsize and maybe one day make a Christmas Tree skirt . I did make a wall hanging type one for a friend about 15 years ago using lighter fabrics...satins, silks , taffetas etc I used to have several Judith Montano books but now only have one Crazy Quilt Odyssey ans am not over keen on it. I don't think I would bother to buy another , there is so much to see for free on the internet .Unlike you Marynel I like the ones with buttons , charms etc on them . Also special bits of ribbons , laces, sequins etc. To my eyes the ones that are embroidery only get a bit boring as there is lots of repetition of stitches n them , although the one I made my friend was embroidery only

Part of hand therapy (messed up my dominant hand) was learning to use scissors again. Then moved to a rotary cutter to apply pressure to my thumb. I cut boxes and baskets of 2" strips a few years ago. Got them out this winter and started piecing them. My sister and I will be tying this into a comforter for my brother. Everytime I look at it I am amazed at how far I have come from being a one handed dependant to my husband to being able to cut my own meat again. Here are some pictures of the top itself and some of the embroidery (Oh yeah, getting that skill back too!) The middle embroidery pic says "Semper Fi" as he is a former Marine.
So while I call it Bits and Strips, what I really think is "Thank You Lord! Now if I can only figure out how to post the pics. They are in my gallery.
