| what a wonderful quilt to know how much effort went into making it that you were working on regaining skills, sure would make it precious to me. Its lovely and your embroidery looks great, so glad you didnt give up and quit when you suffered the setback, good for you _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Thanks Gimpy. It's so nice to hear encouraging words. I know it's not a "must have design", but it's still good to hear encouragement. | |

| Scrappies are so much fun especially when you start recalling where some of the fabrics were used... I love your quilt..and love the embroidery you put on it.... I try to make a scrappy every year... good way to keep control of the left over fabrics... my dd is usually the recipient of the flannel scrappies... all from left over backings... | |

| Sewn3w , even those of us who make must have designs can appreciate someones work even when it isn't perhaps something we would make ourselves. I see lots of quilts that I would never want to make or own but really admire the work and the person who did it. Given your position I would hope that I would have the perseverance to come back as you have . Well done BTW ... I see that green in there again ! I love that fabric and have a few different colours in it. |

| That is really nice Paws. That is called yardstick quilting from the depression era. How neat! Haven't seen it in quite awhile. Gives me an idea.
I've gone scrappy insane. My son's quilt is half quilted, will quilt the other half and join them down the middle. A segment of a scrappy QAYG is in the gallery.
sewn3, I love it. I see so many of my favorites in there. When I get tired of this scrappy Courthouse Steps, that might be a good way to use up the little left over strips. I saw one somewhat like it years ago, they called the design Confetti. _________________ If you can't be a hero, be an inspiration.

| What is a "must have" pattern? No such thing in my book. I think it is great. It is very similar to the current rage of jelly roll quilts. So I guess that makes it "must have". Considering the "race" you were trying to win, I'd say you beat out the competition by a mile. Great job, your brother is going to love it. _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| TXM I am guessing a "must have " pattern is one that is designed by a known designer or somesuch as opposed to one of the quickly made no pattern types. |

I guess since I have never been into designer anything the no pattern ones appeal to me. I can't follow a pattern anyway! _________________ TxMaryQuilts

| Sewn, I really like that, such a creative way to use all those strips. I like that jelly roll race one too, I would have never thought to just sew strips together. Glad you are using it as therapy, also. Good for you. By the way, I had that green landscape fabric, too.
Betweens, I really like the one you did also. I have a lot of strips cut and really need to start to do something with them. Those are good ideas. | |

| We are not the only people to have strips left over. Old time quilters would cut out pattern templates from any handy paper, such as IRONED (to set the ink) newspapers. Sew strips onto the papers, tear off paper and sew those elements together, or do those in the other order. A friend uses old telephone directories this way. The paper tears easily and you already have it. A standard sized phone book page (or other newsprint catalog) can be cut into diamonds, covered with strippy bits in whatever order you like to make a Lemoyne Star. Squares can be used for HST units, sometimes with plain bits, sometimes with other scrappy bits. some people make the scrappy bits go 1/4" outside of the paper, so there are no papers in the seams. I tend to do the same sort of thing with old sheets as the foundation so that I don't have to remove anything. | |

| Sewn, thank you. I intended both of these quilts to go to the local elder care housing, but DH claimed the lower one and I just could not part with the upper one. They both have Thermore batting. The upper one has heavy flannel backing. After I fell asleep under it while binding, I just loved the feel. DH is replacing one I don't really like on his wall. I will try to get him to give that one to the elder care. | |

| The top one reminds me of the quilt I had on my bed as a child. I had NO clue it was a quilt. Mom called it a comforter. Sure wish I still had that so called comforter. Who knew years later I'd be making a "comforter" for our bed, my DD's beds, GK's beds? Life sure is funny.
Your scrappy quilts are beautiful Marynel. |
