| I like what you have all done, not sure if i can make it this time. I lost yesterday to laura and the local library, they have a weekly morning reading session for kids and yesterday they also had an afternoon session so we walked into town twice, by the time we got home from the first one and had to leave for the next I only had 2hrs to try and do everything. then I got an exciting phone call on monday, shemoo from the forum called to ask if she could fly down and visit next week :yahoo: (of course she could!) so she is flying in monday night and out sat night. So now Im frantically trying to rearrange everything and get all the stuff done I had planned for next week so I dont have anything to do when sherrie is here Oh and then added to taht is the fact bob is away all next week on school camp, we were planning on doing something like picnic or overnight camping for my bday on teh weekend after he got home but thats when the principal booked him for this seminar, cant do anythign this weekend as we have to do the vege garden, finish off the weeding and tidy up and getting all teh fall seeds sown for winter crops, I cant put if off for two weeks. Soooooooooooooo, not sure I can fit this one in now _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Golo your quilt turned out wonderfully! Doncha just love mitered corners? Ann, I'm looking forward to seeing yours when it's finished... And GC, don't worry. Have fun (it just cracks me up that you're talking about cleaning up the garden for winter and I'm finally feeling a touch of Spring fever today!). If/when you get around to it, we'll all be happy to ooh and aah at your little quilt. And think of all the stuff that you're learning from our/my mistakes!! I got my border on (with the colors in the wrong placement ) and then squared it up and did the envelope thing, thinking I'd sew 1/4" from the edge to make a faux binding. I do NOT like it!! I still love the little quilt, but one of my miters (which are NOT new to me) refused to cooperate, and the whole envelope thing just didn't work out. I hit a wall this afternoon and as I was drifting off on my little nappy-poo, all I could think about was undoing the backing, re-doing the borders and then putting on a proper binding. So that's what I'll be doing this evening (after my visit with Miss Clairol). I've sure got a long list of things to do and not to do on my next one!! _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| It sounds like you'll be busy Gimpy, but what a fun visit to look forward to! FB..I had mine laid out with the borders in the wrong placement so I have to make a mental note to change them. I hate unsewing! It's funny though..the times that you make a mistake are the times you really remember the lessons you learn! I guess having to undo..or struggling to match things up nicely makes things stick in your mind? I hope to get to it this afternoon. I'm waiting on a TV repairman this morning. Bah! |

| Oh, Ann, it's wonderful! I love the little special touch you added. As for quilting, you might consider using that 'special touch' as a motif and repeating it over the quilt, with or without a separate motif for the border. Heh. It's silly, I know - I'm looking at the pic of your quilt and it looks like there's all kinds of room to do stuff, though I know that the border's only an inch and a half wide! Sure, go ahead and do a separate quilting motif in that border! _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| Ann love your quilt, you could quilt paw prints or pumpkin vines around it, ghosts even, keep theme going, its looking great. You could add black and orange buttons or pumpkin buttons, I used to have some pumpkin buttons. They look great, imagine laying them all out together, side by side. _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Thanks for the kind words and the ideas. ..and thanks for recognizing it's a cat Golo. Good thing I don't have to depend on my drawing skills to earn a living! LOL Hmmm..now my head is spinning at fast speed! Pumpkins would be cute..ghosts quilted in the black border? I dunno? I think I will probably only use flannel as batting? FB..actually..I have quilt design stencils that would fit! |

| LOL! You know, Ann, I knew it was a cat, I was just being cagey about not saying what it was so everyone else would click over and see for themselves! Mine is back to border-less, so I'll re-attach the borders and finish it, maybe tomorrow. Of course I'll post a picture when I'm done! _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| Hmmm... the computer looking thing that's right next to the link looking thing? Huh. I took the ?v=0 off of the end of the address. Flickr gives me gas sometimes. It's so hard (for me) to understand how to do fairly simple things. _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| I copied the pattern yesterday and am planning on working on it today. Bu t I'm sure it won't be as nice as Annie's. I stopped at the LQS today and they have the perfect fabric for a pattern I like. Unfortunately, it would involve and major purchase, cause it only has two fabrics in it. May take a tie-back from our BR to double check. Should I or shouldn t I? | |

| I went back with a curtain tieback and it didn't work. I may have to take a trip to the other lqs to see if they have something that will work. I bet they will! | |

| Good thing you took that tie back in match it up? It would be a shame if you got it and once you got it home you didn't like it. |

| Okey-dokey, here it is - the finally finished Split Nine mini-quilt/doily (and I'm boldly using it to meet my Christmas Club challenge over at CTTQ :mockery-017: ): Quilted, bound, and ready to go! I used holographic thread for the quilting, it's approx. 11 3/4 x 14 1/4 (or is it 11 1/4 x 14 3/4? Whatevs.) _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress

| That's really cute FB! All finished and bound..well done! It was a fun little project wasn't it? CC..I bought a spool of holographic thread at Hobby Lobby in their clearance section. It has an iridescence to it..and looked almost like very thinly sliced plastic? Kind of hard to describe. I can't tell you what it's like to sew with. DH snagged it from me for tying flies for fly fishing. |

And they say quilters are inventive!! CC, Ann got it right - the "thread" is a very fine mylar-looking substance. The way that it's printed (I don't know that it's printed, but that's all I can think) gives it a cut-diamond-ish look, so that if you move it around or move around it, it sparkles and twinkles. It's not round like normal threads but flat, like linquine. I get the best results using a topstitch needle (the eye is bigger). Though I've never found it to break while in a quilt, it's not a strong thread and is best used for decorative stitching. Or flies. _________________ Perfection is the enemy of progress
