| Well...the long anticipated tees arrived yesterday. These are mostly high school cross country team shirts. I had forgotten just how large the logos on these shirts are. DD wants a throw, I've got them washed and today I think I will cut them open and tirm them slightly. There is a few I can seperate the logo and some that I just cant....I've decided on black sashing since the colors range from hot pink, royal blue, gray, black. The size of these logo's makes any creativity in sashing impossible..just no room. I'll take a pic...I'm a bit deflated...I thought this would be fun..but beyond making squares, stablizing and maybe doing a thin shashing there is nothing to this quilt. I should add I never liked most of these shirts. Her coach was big into graphics. | |

| How about putting the big ones on the back so you can "create" witht the logos on the front? | |

| The logos on the front are huge. I was thinking of doing it two sided, she doesnt' want a bed quilt..many of these have big stuff on both sides. I think I'm going to try and discet some of these....just have to leave them on the floor and hope for inspiration! | |

| The pink and black ones feel pretty new but the gray and white ones are well worn. All of the hve meaning, she asked me to make a quilt for her of them when she was in high school but although I was sewing back then I had never quilted so she patiently waited..when she moved she suggested leaving them here...I said NO...The day she moved from her apartment to Rhode Island I showed up to the moving party with her very large rock collection...she didn't think found where she hid them....she's a grown up...she needs to take her stuff!!! Her FIL had a hearty laugh as he had shown up with some of my SIL''s junk!...so now the shirts are back in my house...but I have a purpose. | |

| Chris - IMHO you should go ahead, make it simple, and get it done! Save your time, creativity, skill, etc for other quilts. Your DD will be happy because all the logos are there in one quilt. You'll be doing it for the love of DD instead of the love of the project.
My DD1 won't touch a needle and thread! Last weekend when we got together I came home with two pairs of DGD's jeans that needed to be shortened and DD's blouse that needed repair. I do not like hemming, and I like mending even less! But - - I hemmed and fixed for free and then spent $5.50 to mail the box to her! Yup - love of the DD - that's it! | |

| Chris, when I made John's T-shirt quilt, I used 12" squares. How big will yours be? I didn't have any problem with mine. I think you will be happier if you cut them to size after you sew on the interfacing. I think (????) there is a picture of his on my Web Shots. |

| Johns quilt is very nice looking......you had the same thing as me..real big logos. I have wrapped my brain around this project. and I think you are right Mary Ann...make it easy on myself. I fused the stablizer on most of the blocks, ran out of the stuff, very nice stablizer by the way, heavy woven..like muslin with an iron on stuff on it. Blocks feel very stable. I'm going to make this with all blue, gray and white blocks on the front. The one black and two pink are going on the backside., Two of the blocks on front will each consist of two 12 x 6 inch blocks....I'll keep you posted!! | |

| I got thru piecing my tshirt quilt for DS and had to stop to work on other projects with deadlines...... I am doing a double sided throw with all white t shirts on one side (all region band and choir stuff......) and multi color on the other side. I have no sashing whatsoever...just sewed them directly to each other....grouped them kind of.....some pieces are tiny...just a chest logo...others are huge. It looks cool.....will add a border and quilt when I get time. I can post a pic of the sides if you'd like to see it. It did take a LOT of stabilizer. LOL. | |

| Ditto what QBee said, words of wisdom, this one isnt what you would like to make for her, think of it as she is commissoning you to put together something she cant. She just wants her throw, go ahead and make it simple, fast and dont fuss, quicker its done quicker she is happy and you are free to go onto more artsy creative projects. With big logos Id stick to the old adage "less is more" and keep it simple. Good luck _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| Yes great advice. I didn't see these postings yesterday. I have been driving all over tarnation trying to find some solid navy blue fabric for this project. Finaly found some yesterday. Who'd think this would be a challenge! But i did get to visit several not so local QS. So now....Kona washed, print washed, tees are stablized and today is cutting day. I did in the interim take the two black and two bright pink out and sew them together without sashing, They have the most rubber stamped ink stuff on them and they are very heavy. I have opted not to put them on the back as I originaly planned as I think they will feel icky against the skin (this will be a well used couch throw) So I threw a binding on them. and aslo a rod pocket on the back so she can hang it on her basement wall one day...I spent no time on this, really these are the scraps of the project. | |

| I had it quilted Gloria...i just didn't have the time to finish it, I recently met a woman who does a wonderful job with her long arm. she has become a mentor and friend. This is the second quilt she has done for me. I would prefer a closer quilt pattern but there are issues with the thickness of tee shirt quilts, just too heavy for close quilting. I am sure I could have sewn this on my own machine but I was bound and determined to have this done in time for the reunion. I'm glad it is finished. | |
