| Sorry, this is a long story: A friend of mine has a sister-in-law with cancer. She is divorced and has little money, but now can't work while undergoing treatment. We are having a fund raiser in March for her. The SIL, has a good friend who is coming here from England about that time and we're planning the fund raiser so she can attend. She has specifically commissioned a quilt designed around a combination of British and American Patriotic fabrics. We've found some of the fabrics we would like to use, but the pattern is the issue. I was thinking of something like a row quilt. We were looking online and found a pattern we kind of liked. We'd change it a little, but the basic pattern was a great idea. It had rows but two of the rows were kind of combined and on one side had a mariners compass block. This got us thinking and we would like to focus on the mariners compass. Have that in the center, but surround it with the blocks featuring the British and American fabric. Wow! That's a tall order. Any ideas? Links? Photos? HELP! | |

| What about surrounding it with pieced/appliqued house blocks on plain coloured background fabrics? Salt box houses for america, thatched cottage style for the UK, alternate them and have it something along the line of friends house ring the world and the mariners compass points the way to a friends house? Just a random thought _________________ "My will is mine.....I shall not make it soft for you" Aeschylus, Agamemnon

| We're actually meeting the beginning of February and having a sew-a-thon. We're going to sew Thursday through Sunday morning. I think we can get a queen sized top done.
I showed a bunch of ideas to one of the quilters today and she liked a large mariner's compass in the center on-point with blocks surrounding it. She found a panel with London squares and another with Statute of Liberty squares. I also found a panel with American Eagle squares. This is definitely a work in progress.

| Sounds very good so far. Maybe a couple of other landmarks, like Big Ben? | |
